Why She Was Called “Umm al-Masakin” (Mother of the Poor)
Even before Islam, Zaynab bint Khuzaymah (رضي الله عنها) was known for one defining trait:
Mercy in Action
She was famously called:
“أم المساكين” – Umm al-Masakin (Mother of the Poor)
Why?
Because she consistently:

- Took personal responsibility for helping those in hardship
Her kindness wasn’t performative. It was habitual.
